Chris Wardlaw - Olympian, Marathoner, Super Coach - Shop Run 15th November
Legendary coach and distance athlete, Chris Wardlaw, joins us for our shop run on Wednesday 15th November. Clear your diary, as this after-run-chat might go a little longer than most! We are expecting some memorable stories, insights and training tips that he's shared with some of Australia's best.
A dual Olympian as a distance runner from 5000 metres to the marathon, Chris has contributed to athletics in Australia in an enduring manner and in diverse ways.
Known affectionately as 'Rab', he represented Australia at the 1976 & 1980 Olympics - in the marathon. He was the 1975 Australian 10000m champion and was silver medallist the following year, as well as a Victorian champion at 5000m, 10000m, marathon and cross country and co-leader with Rob de Castella of the famous Melbourne “Running Pack” of their era.
Chris is well known for coaching some of our greatest including Craig Mottram, Steve Moneghetti and Kerryn McCann along with international and national level athletes, and numerous club and state level athletes.
Chris has made an enormous contribution to athletics as an Australian team coach serving on nine teams from 1993 to 2000, including national head coach leading up to the Sydney Olympics.
'Rab' can be seen regularly running the gravel trails of Blackburn, around the sanctuary and along the creek, and hope you enjoy a run and chat with him on Wednesday 15th November.
