'Mona' is one of Australia's most decorated athletes with an elite career that spanned 3 decades.
From his breakout year in 1986 at the Commonwealth Games where he won the bronze medal in his debut marathon, Mona mixed it with the best in the world, winning Berlin Marathon in 1990, Comm Games Gold, breaking the World Record in the Half Marathon, running 3 top 10 finishes in the Olympic Marathon, including 5th place in his debut Olympic marathon in Soul in 1988.
Mona's record at World Majors is remarkable, winning Tokyo Marathon, twice second at London Marathon, and his winning time in Berlin marathon in 1990 remains his marathon best, 2:08:16.
One of his most memorable championships was 1997, 10 years after narrowly missing the podium in 1987 World Champs marathon in Tokyo, Mona dug deep in the heat of Athens to finally claim his World Championship medal, finishing 3rd in the 1997 World Champs Marathon in Athens.
In his "retirement", Mona has rewritten the record books in Masters events on the track and the road. His most recent accommplishments include world records over 5000m, 4 x 800m and within a whisker of the Half Marathon record.
